  • lightcache takes age to start

    Hi there,
I wonder what happen when the lightcache takes age to start, I mean when you hit the render button and see nothing except "building lightcache" but the progress bar doesn't move...
Sometime this happen sometime not. What is the reason.?
    thx

displacement can slow it down, maybe that's the case?

Check if low thread priority is on in vray settings.

If you changed process priority to below normal or low in task manager switch to normal.

I had similar problems and i find out that these 2 issues are culprit for such behaviour.

Also try to zoom in and out of your image. Funny thing - I noticed the progress bar sometimes doesn't show or advance when having a large image zoomed out on the VFB. Zooming in until I can see the LC sampling fixes the progress bar :P

are you using HDR in your scene?
if so, make sure your using HDR file type instead of EXR....in our environment it makes a massive difference.
                hope this helps

If HDR or EXR indeed does make a difference it should be considered a bug, right?

There are two main reasons: on-demand geometry generation (loading proxies, generating displacements and subdivision surfaces), and on-demand texture loading (VRayHDRI with large textures). VRayHDRI typically caches the loaded textures, so the delay is only on the first render. Using tiled .tx or OpenEXR files for large textures may help to reduce the load times.
