  • Scene from ...09 n to 1.45 ?

I all, just received the baby !

I 've tested it on a scene build with the former version 0.009 n
and I noticed a big difference in the render time.

Before the scene was computed in about 8 mn, here it took 38 mn.

I did it twice and it took 1h !!!!!

It may be normal but I wanted to know if there were any advice...

    Thank you !
    Bye !

if you were using irradiance map for primary with QMC for secondary bounce go look for the QMC rollout. it should be at something like 50 samples which should be lowered to about 4-8. bounces set to about 10.
see if this speeds things up

      Hi Da elf !

      I've made the changes...

      Well, no change...Very long too.
      Quite strange...
I only use a "very low" preset, displacement, one direct light and some
trees with a lot of standard max material with opacity.

The prepass is very long, very few reflection, a few windows...
Nothing special...No animation except a noise in the foliage in the trees.

      All that in 800*600...

      Hmm !! ennoying !

      Thank you !

Make sure all the settings are the same. Irradiance map settings needed to be set again when you loaded old scenes in earlier internal betas. Maybe this still is the case. Also, convert your standard materials with opacity maps to VRay materials with the new opacity map. That should be a lot faster than the Std material.

                in older internal versions,

all settings like in qmc sampler just where copyied.

means, what was 15 now always should be 8 as standart setting.

the same with glossy reflections and refractions. always make sure, your glossys aren´t set to 15 anymore. the new standart is now 8.

this should solve most problems i hope. At last convert all standart materials to vray with the new converter. (this one is new in this new internal version, so i don´t know if there are left some bugs. Geddart told he did found still one bug , but i am not sure if this is fixed).

also opacity now should work fine and much faster as in the 1.09, and at last if you render interiors, just try the lightmap for secoundary bounces.

this will boost renderspeed as much as photonmapping, but setuptime is reduced especially if you had many lightsources to setup.

                good luck.

                  Hi all !

Yes, it works better now with all your advices, thank you.

I changed QMC parameters as Da elf said and convert the scene materials

Just a question to Tom , "15" in glossy is interpolation sample ?
To Naty, It is exterior scene, and I have to compute the final version
so , I don't have time to change all the scene with the new configuration
that I don't know yet, like "Lightmap"
Well I go on working right now
                  Bye !

i think it was always at 15 samples why 8 samples now?
i think the result will look different too?

no big problem as changing renderers while in the middle of a project is nonsense anyway.

In fact it wasn't in the middle of the project.
It was finshed, but they wanted to compute the image in another bigger
format, and I had changed the version in the meantime.
I wondered if I could use it or go back to the former version...
I have to start another one and I don't like to set up several times
Vray on Max for different projects.

I have 2 older to recompute in the week, and start a new one.
a nonsense... I try to do my best with the present conditions...

                        hi Gafl

hmm, glossys had earlier a preset of 50 samples
now the new standart is about 8, i am not sure if there has changed to much. but you should try to lower your settings when they come in from an older scene.
