  • Correct procedure: Motion blur with HDRI

    Hi,

We're currently doing a rendering (still) from a moving car. We shot some blurred backplates and a sharp HDRI.
Now how would I go the correct way about integrating a CGI car into that image?
My thought was: Animate wheels, enable motion blur (works until here), then animate domelight rotation to get a blurred HDRI (I checked that the texture is affectd by the domelight rotation) but I can't seem to get blurred light effects from the HDRI at all. Does this even work? Rotating the HDRI Light source to get a blurred light?

I seem to remember that blurring didn't work on dome lights, map it into a sphere that doesn't cast light or gi and that'll work.

Check out a bit of software called Virtual Rig.

If you don't MaxScript, then have a look at my blog and learn how easy and powerful it can be.

Thanks, I quickly looked at it and it seems to be extra software. I want to avoid additional software (it's a noncommissioned work, trying to avoid costs). But thanks for the pointer!

Oh, I see, then one more item for the wishlist
Thing is, I would use my HDRI normally, just tick off reflections, and instead use the sphere for the reflections only then, via lightMtl, right?

Edit: Any way of correctly bluring the HDRI in PS or another free application?

I think you can do it in the latest version of PS CC.

Filters -> Blur Gallery -> Path Blur Maybe?

            I found this: http://www.panocapture.com/motion-bl...-map-tutorial/

This seems to be a good solution for me (We have PTGui). As far as I know the path blur wouldn't work since the paths actually change (flat in center, curved at top/bottom) but I haven't tried it yet - seems the PTGui Workflow is the way to go for me.
