Ones that bug me daily, things like procedural bumps, multisubtex. Lighting differences.....

Think triplanar doesnt work either, which is also a pain as Im wanting to use that a lot more now.

I prefer to use Rappatools, so MANY tools and also has incorporated copy/paste between max scenes... Everything remains the same yes.

we should try RT sometime, sounds like its worth a go
currently do really grainy really low res tests (even on a dual 18core) with the CLR threshold to control quality
(kids these days dont deserve fast computers. drives me but seeing people sitting there watching renders)

This is the whole reason for this thread. My client gets so ticked off with his visualizers when he walks by and sees them on Facebook while an hour long test is in process... One person is dedicated to individual products, and the other does interior room scenes. Each has a dual 10-core machine (40 threads) and a single Quadro 4000 card on a single monitor. So my recommendation to them is going to be:

Purchase additional GTX970 card for each machine, plus second monitor.
Invest in a couple of used HP Z800 machines for production nodes.
Utilize the power of RT in the early stages of design, (maybe the whole process for the one who is dedicated to the small products)
Run two instances of Max so that you can always be doing *something*

I think that's about it for the moment...

              YES

Amazes me how some employees are happy to waste soooooo much time doing a full 4k test just to check the colour of the f**king fruit bowl.

Means I need to waste time policing it.....

Sometimes you need to know how the reflection of the fruit bowl affects the whole picture.
                Cheers,

If I am running less than 4 instances of Max it is a slow day.

I don't have the mental capacity for that sort of behavior

It's funny how much people confuse interactive rendering with GPU rendering

Don't you have an issue where if you have two Max's open, the UI of each becomes hellishly sluggish? On my machine, having two instances of Max 2016 open makes UI items in each very slow - things like redrawing windows, opening the material editor and such.

                        Best regards,

They can't tell a biased renderer from an unbiased one either, so you can't really expect much...

I've also had max wipe my 3dsmax.ini when I have multiple instances open for long periods...

So that's what that is. I was wondering what was causing this.

Welllllllllll that's my guess based on it happening a few times over the last years. It may of course be something else but for me it's happened each time I've had more than 1 max instance open. It's almost like when max closes and saves the ini file, it's getting messed up if there's another open...
