  • Multiple user in a DR environment

So I've got a client who is sorting out the pros/cons of DR rendering via BB, Split Scan Lines, etc.

There are two users and three nodes. They are trying to figure out a way that makes sense for minimal administrative oversight and maximum usage of available CPU's both on and off hours.

I've advised them to set up the following:
    - Add three nodes and both worksations to DR settings in Max
    - Send jobs to BB server
    - Anyone can monitor the Queue Monitor and change priorities of jobs
    - During off-hours, activate Spawner on local machines

Does that seem right? I'm a one-man shop and it's how I have my rig set up, however, with two users, it's a bit more complex in how jobs may be managed. For instance, what if both user's jobs are equally important? Is there a more flexible approach, perhaps using "Strip Scanline Rendering" (which I know little about). Like if one user's jobs are interiors that take 7-8hrs ea, and the other user does products which take 30min ea?

    Thanks.

This setup should work. Since there will be only 3 machines they can be easily managed through remote desktop connection for an example.
There are actually too mane combination for network rendering and it mostly depends on the project which one to choose. For single renders in hires Slice renderings are an option but I think DR is more easy to setup. However, our V-Ray Spawner allows you to specify port number and this could be useful in you want to render separate jobs simultaneously on one render node.
Queuing render jobs in BB is a good option too since it allows you to start/stop jobs and also make DR renderings through it.
