  • Reasons for current default "Global DMC" settings?

    Hi,
I am still getting adjusted to the new way of setting up VRay since the new sampling stuff.

Now what I was wondering what are the reasons for the defaults in the Global DMC tab?

    1) Min Samples 16 - why not 8 like it used to be? Why would I need more to start with?
    2) Adaptive Amount: I was usually setting this to 0.95 in older scenes, it renders very fast since the early termination can kick in faster. Why leave it at 0.85? Is it a "fail safe" setting for...I don't know... difficult scenes/dark scenes?
    Software:
    Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1
    3ds Max 2016 SP4
    V-Ray Adv 3.60.04

    Hardware:
    Intel Core i7-4930K @ 3.40 GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 (4096MB RAM)
    64GB RAM

It seems to be a more reliable value when using something like the irradiance map.

The 0.85 value works better if, for any reason, someone is using the irradiance map and also in some cases for volumes.

Note that with the default V-Ray settings, these two values have little to no effect anyways which is why they are hidden.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

Thanks for the explanation! Since the update I find myself rarely using IR-Map anymore.
