Progressive and Adaptive sampling

i haven't been able to get respectable render times as yet using both but my scenes are complex most times, is anyone seeing a difference in render speed for one over the other? i agree using BF and LC are nice but the render times with the default settings especially in interiors is somewhat abit long using a 5960 pc as mine.

yes if you want to do high end images of complex interiors you are either going to need a bit more hardware, put up with tweaking lots for imap, or plan for long rendertimes.. there is no magic solution.

(i can suggest that the lovely images you see others posting here were normally not rendered on a single machine)


im a bit hardware limited myself, i have 2x 3930k 6 core machines, oc'ed to 4.6ghz. if its a clean interior shot ,fully dressed i either plan for a 12-24 hr render at final quality, use RT gpu if i can (my titan x is 2x faster than both my machines together) or i use a renderfarm.

i cant be arsed with imap any more unless im doing flythrough animation. in which case its still a massive benefit.

ahhh but thing is i stil end up back with using IM for rendering and just adding a lights around the scene as needed even with higher settings am stil getting better render times using IM and most times the splotches aren't even noticeable if even there for interiors, render times are roughly a half what it is using BF and any sampling method. ufff i just saw the other long thread started by Lele about settings for sp3, i guess its whatever works to get the job done then, can't really follow using all the new settings without more hardware to back it up or more render farm usage.

Rendering static/fly-through interiors with IM will be always much faster than BF this is a fact.
BF becomes faster than IM with more complex interior animations where the IM-sploches could be only resolved with render times higher than BF-ones.
