  • Vray nightlies render differently

I've noticed in the nightly I am using (vray_adv_33501_max2016_x64_26772) That is renders differently from the actual 3.30.05 official release we were using. Seems the nightlies have complete different results for Noise threshold, and maybe even max. subdivs, but the Max. Subdivs might just be because of the change in Noise threshold to make up for it. Here are the settings below from 3.30.05 & the 26772 nightlies to get the same results.

    3.30.05:
    Min. subdivs: 1
    Max. subdivs: 6
    Render time: 0.0
    Noise Threshold: 0.01

    26772:
    Min. subdivs: 1
    Max. subdivs: 7
    Render time: 0.0
    Noise Threshold: 0.001

I used progressive, but bucket was the same in the nightly. Is this a new adjustment to the sampler or is it a bug or something? I also noticed a little different lighting on one of my textured objects.

Okay now comparing the noise threshold to itself at different settings in the nightlies I can see that it's broken, so this must be a bug. Setting it to 0.01 or 0.001 has no change in quality.

I'm not getting this result; they render the same for me and the noise theshold appears to work correctly. I don't think there's a bug. You can post a scene if you like.

I'll have to send a scene because I'm getting two different results from 3.30.05 and the nightly, also the noise threshold doesn't seem to work right. I tried reseting vray by selecting default scanline and then back to vray didn't work, nightly comes out noiser still. 3.30.05 rendered at 6min18sec, nightly with same settings render at 4min25sec, so that's a good tell also.

Well, I'll need a scene then... other than that, so far it renders the same for me on the tests I tried.

Okay uploaded the scene to your FTP, it's called "Noise Threshold Issue.zip"

you can notice the difference the best on the grass in the back near the tree line.

I managed to reproduce the issue, it is added into our bug tracking system for further investigation.
                We'll keep you posted.
