Is there a difference between the "Stop" command in the VFB and the 3ds max "Cancel"?

  • Is there a difference between the "Stop" command in the VFB and the 3ds max "Cancel"?

    Like the title says.
    I heard someone claiming that the "Stop" button inside the VFB kinda stops the rendering "faster" so to speak. Is there a difference at all in the implementation of cancelling the render between the VFB button and the standard max "Cancel" button?
    Software:
    Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1
    3ds Max 2016 SP4
    V-Ray Adv 3.60.04


    Hardware:
    Intel Core i7-4930K @ 3.40 GHz
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 (4096MB RAM)
    64GB RAM

    I dont know if there is or not but out of habit now I only use the stop button on the VFB, Ive had issues in the past with the cancel button or so it seemed and since then I haven't used it

      id say definitely yes.. i cant tell you what, but it cancels and gets me back to work faster. .

        VEry good to, I'll try to remember it and make a habit out of it.Has anyone experience if it works on those scenes with heavy displacement which take ages to unload? ^^

          Functionally they do the same thing, although the button in the frame buffer may be more responsive.

          For the displacement unloading specifically there are some improvements in the next SP.

            really? i always use the one in the vfb because it seems to make a not-insignificant difference to how long vray takes to stop and give me back control in max. at least a few seconds generally, sometimes more.

              I mean that they do the same thing in relation to stopping the render. You know how Max 2017 has a "Stop" button and a "Cancel" button and they do slightly different things... The VFB "stop" button and the "cancel" button in the render dialog are equivalent in that sense.

              That's regardless of the UI responsiveness; I agree that the VFB button tends to be quicker.

                ahh ive not tried 2017... strikes me as being rather an odd thing to have "stop" and "cancel" buttons.

                  They are used with the ART engine; since it's a progressive renderer, you may want to Stop it at some point, but still apply post-effects and save the result. Whereas the "Cancel" button would just end the rendering process without any of the post-render work being done.
