  • Basic presets question

I'm trying to set up batch render with a variety of scent states and vray presets and I'm trying to clarify what preset stores what information. There is a preset which is accessed from the pull down at the bottom of the render setup window and there is another which is accessed from the settings tab on the render setup window.

As I saw it the 'Vray' option in the main pull down list contains all the vray render set up presets in a single on/off option and the settings tab option allows for more element-by-element control but I've got a couple of queries.

    1) Is there any way to access the more detailed presets in the batch render window? it only seems to list the basic vray presets from the pull down list.
    2) Is there any way delete the detailed presets individually? or do I just have to dump the whole vray.cfg file?

There is the MaxScript function vrayLoadPreset() which allows you to load a preset from the vray.cfg file; I don't know whether you can use this in the batch render utility though.

There is a Delete button at the bottom of the V-Ray presets window; doesn't that work for you?

    Best regards,
    Vlado

I don't think the maxscript trick will work in batch render unfortunately from what I can see. Also, there is no delete button on the presets under the settings tab in the render setup window.

Just to be clear these are the two options I'm talking about (vray 1.5 sp6)

Option 1 opens this window, files are stored in C:\Users\Me\Documents\3dsMax\renderpresets and are individually deletable.

Option 2 opens this window, file is stored in C:\Users\Me\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\2012 - 64bit\enu\plugcfg\vray.cfg as a single file.

As you can see they are different presets in each location so I was hoping to find a way to edit the option 2 list without deleting the whole vray.cfg file.

You should have started with that The delete button is not there.

As you can see they are different presets in each location so I was hoping to find a way to edit the option 2 list without deleting the whole vray.cfg file.
You can edit it manually to delete just the preset that you want, but it's way more complicated than just deleting a file, unfortunately.

OK, thanks, would it be possible to explain how or to point me in the direction of an explanation?

Open vray.cfg file, look for the preset name you would like to remove, then select the whole information till the next preset name and remove it.
