  • List of stuff what the V-Ray scene converter does?

    Is it available somewhere?
I noticed in the new changelog of SP4 it also converts NormalMaps and it dawned on me that I don't really know what EXACTLY VRay does when converting.
I think it i s convenient tool but provides not much control. See in my current case I used it to convert NormalBump into VRayNormalMap and that was the ONLY thing I wanted to do but there is no possibility to ONLY use certain features of the converter.

I think generally this tool could use some love, don't you think?
If it works really reliably (I don't know, I just have a feeling it doesn't since I dont get much information or control, this is subjective) it could attract even more customers switching over from other renderers I imagine.
Some kind of visible log or even only printing to the VRayLog or the maxScript log would be an iimprovement.
    Software:
    Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1
    3ds Max 2016 SP4
    V-Ray Adv 3.60.04

    Hardware:
    Intel Core i7-4930K @ 3.40 GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 (4096MB RAM)
    64GB RAM

The tool is maxscript based. If you have some basic scripting proficiency you can mix and match parts from 3dsmax\scripts\startup\vrayutils.ms to divine what the tool does, and separate some of the functions to a new script file.

3ds Max 2017 has a fancy scene converter tool that we've been meaning to utilize at some point, but we didn't have time for this service pack. It should allow for much more granular control over the conversion process.

      Best regards,

Good to know! Does it mean we can get that only in Max 2017 then?

Well, it's just a bunch of MaxScripts, I think, so maybe it can be ported to other versions too...
