  • Using VrayVolumeGrid with VrayEnvironmentFog

Loading a fumefx fire through a volumegrid with vrayenvironmentfog seems to not only put them both on the same vrayatmosphere render element, but the environment fog doesn't effect the volumegrid. The volumegrid is always at full visibility regardless of how far into the fog it is.

Anybody got a solution to this?

You need to use the Volumetric Geometry render mode of the VolumeGrid.

Thank you. That did the trick. Would you happen to know how to get the volumegrid on a separate render element in this mode? I've been messing around but can't find a render element it will appear in besides my beauty pass.

When rendering in Geometry mode VolumeGrid will be treated as geometry so there is no way to isolate that in a separate element - but you can make a matte using the MultiMatte render element (this will work only in geometry mode) and use that as a mask in post.
