Viz 4 and Vray Advanced

Own Viz 4 and am almost ready to buy Vray Advanced. My interest is still renderings. Is Vray totally self contained or will I loose some functionality Vray may be getting from Viz 2005, Max 5,6,7...? Hoping that is not the case, I would appreciate your comments.
