  • Istalling V-Ray as a workstation - using it as Rendernode - does it use a licence

I am creating a deployment for Max 2017. I want to use the same deployment for nodes and workstations.

So my questions is, does V-Ray use the rendenode license when max is started as a rendernode for a vray spawner oder a backburner server, although it is installed as a workstation?

I know what to do, should this not work. It would just a little simpler.

    Thx for the help.

Yes. As long as UI isn't started, it will act as rendernode. Even if it's installed as workstation.

I have three machines, vray is installed as workstation on each. I have one license. Once UI is launched on one machine, it can't be opened on the others which act then as rendernodes (spawner only).

BTW, installing vray as workstations on each machine solved all my DR problems back then...

It is fine to install V-Ray as workstation on all machines even if you want to use them only as render nodes.
Just set the license to point the IP of the machine where dongle is plugged-in in order to access the available render node licenses.
