  • A big thank you to Chaosgroup.......

Only *very* recently, like in the last couple of weeks, have I started using Progressive Rendering........

...... and I have to say, it is absolutely brilliant

At first I started using it to quickly identify any errors or omissions I might have in my scene....

But right now I'm using it for a production render and I've never had renders coming out of the oven so quickly - I feel like I've been wasting a lot of money with renderfarms when I could have used the Progressive Renderer to get more than acceptable production renders instead.

I mean, we're talking seriously quick, and all pretty much 'out of the box' default settings - I hardly need to do touch anything

    Wonderful, wonderful software.

Well done to the good people at Chaosgroup.

    And thanks.

So, just to clarify, you are not changing it to buckets, you are leaving it at progressive? I didn't think it was faster, it just allowed you to kill it and have something usable. Also, does the Denoiser work with Progressive?

I've found myself using Progressive more and more recently for tests with my new double Xeon machine and it is just awesome for lighting setup and basic materials .
For final renders I'm still using Bucket mode but recently for a couple of projects with a tight deadline progressive saved my life =D, so big thanks from our studio too

I haven't noticed any speed up ether, but I need to test it more ..maybe MSR works better with progressive?! -remember reading that somewhere before but I need to check
And yes Prgressive work with Denoiser .Actully progressive mode let denoiser elements update every N second/pass -forget the name of that parameter- so you can decide when to stop rendering.

Simply, I love to put pixels together! Sounds easy right : ))

        Just tested the raysize bundle for distributed rendering on 3 or 4 pc's (as we were having stuck buckets on the final part on a couple of renders with this project);

First attempt I increased it to 512, but all the processors (including the WS) just fluctuates constantly.
Second attempt with 1024, more 100% use but still some fluctuations.
Third attempt with 1280, mostly 100% with some fluctuations on the dual processor RN.

        Pc's are old ws i7 3770 (4cores/8threads), dual xeon 2630v3 (2x 8cores/16threads) and 2 new xeon ws (6-cores/12 threads).

Been using mostly progressive myself, it does seem faster, i havent tested it against bucket rendering but i agree, buckets take forever n you cant see mistakes so fast, progressive rendering is indeed a big plus for vray

Yes, I'm using progressive almost all the time except for the finals. I always render the finals with bucket mode. If only you could add/remove render slaves on the fly while rendering with the Progressive like in Bucket mode it would be perfect.
