  • VR Animation / Camera + Format Settings for Samsung VR Gear

    I would like to render an animation for the Samsung VR Gear.
    I am talking about a 360 Stereoscopic render you can load into your Samsung VR Gear.

    I've seen videos produced with a horizontal split (left eye / right eye)
    However, it's not clear for me what camera you should use in 3dsmax / vray.

    @Camera:
    - should you use Standard Max Camera set to a 360 camera ?
    - a Vray

    @Format:
    What resolution is actually doable / playable for the Samsung smartphones ?
    And what codec is usually used ? .h264 .mp4 ?

    @Horizontal Split Image Output:
    And finally.. how do you actually get the horizontal split ?

    Any little help highly appreciated !
    Thank you so much !

      Hi Morne,

      thank you very much, that helped indeed.
      However, I am running into one "crazy" issue.

      I was running a quick test you can see here:
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBeaMEhhAvU

      you can download the original .mp4 file here:
      https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B69...71540864234329

      For some reason.. it's impossible to play that movie within the Samsung VR Gear.
      It sounds crazy.. but I couldn't find a way to load/play that movie into my Samsung VR App.

      yes.. I copied the file into the /Oculus/movies/3d/ folder.. I also tried the 360.. but that thing doesn't look right.

      Do you have to use different output / format settings in order to play a stereoscopic animation on the Samsung VR Gear ?

      I contacted Samsung Support.. but they couldn't tell me anything... ufff...
