problem with motion blur

Hi,
my scene consists of animated particles and other objects. the problem is that the motion blur effects the particles and static objects but i just want the particles to be motion blurred and not the whole szene.

maverick, the only option is to render the particles out in a seperate pass.

but can you explain how it works? i mean the layerrendering.
is there a possibility to apply a matte-shadow material on the static objects? if yes, can you give me a detailed introduction?
