I don't think Vray is expensive given the fact that your license gives you about 4 years of free upgrades. And when Vray upgrades it definitely upgrades not like Autodesk.

I don't see where is a room for complaining here. If you divide it to individual years, you pretty much pay around $100/year for upgrades. That's a lot cheaper than Corona. Yes, you had to pay those 900 bucks at the start, but if you stop upgrading now, you get to keep your V-Ray. You don't get to keep anything that you pay just subscription for. That's dirt cheap given how robust and feature rich V-Ray is, and how many different production scenarios it can handle.
Yes, you can find examples of even cheaper software and point finger at it, like Z-brush, but keep in mind last version (R7) was released in January of 2015. If R8 gets released around January of 2017, that will be 2 years between releases. I would much rather have Chaosgroup keep getting more money, and keep development pace reasonable.

I am more than happy to pay for full license price for the new V-Ray 4.0 :P (pls Vlado don't take it literally=D )
joking aside it is quite fair to pay for a major upgrade when you use and benefit from all the SPs for 4 years imo .

Simply, I love to put pixels together! Sounds easy right : ))

Myself, and probably a lot of the people here are here because we can say: hey vlado, this is a problem... and vlado will read it and respond, in real time sometimes, fix it that day quite often if it is possible to do so. Or tell us what we are doing wrong.
Rendering engines are mystical magic boxes with buttons on them for most of us, vray's tech support and forums are what we are really paying for, imo.WerT
