  • Max 2017 viewport issues

One day I will find an autodesk programmer, and I will tell them exactly what I think of their efforts, if I can restrain from showing them via the medium of physical violence.

In the mean time has anybody else been struggling along with the new viewport "quality controls" that appear to have completely broken textures in the viewport? I am constantly greeted with completely black faces OR a grey & white checkerboard. My colleague is also struggling with the same issue and it appears to be worse on some projects than in others.

How is is that with every single release they manage to break something that worked (albeit poorly) before?

My main question is has anybody found a fix for it?

I was asking because Bobby experienced similar checkerboard problems and AFAIK it was due to walls & tiles being installed. Maybe another plugin?

Yes, I have been doing so and having the same as well - thought it was just me at first......

I'm still on 2014 and paying maintenance fees (on a perpetual licence) for what exactly I do question.....

Me too, but when paying £600+ per year for 2014 for the last 3 years, equals £1800 - I guess we're paying in the hope that there will at some point be a decent, solid version of Max along eventually.....

Seriously, I'm waiting for the next 'good' version of Windows (I don't think I'll be upgrading to 10 anytime soon), and to get to a stable version of Max on that (2019 ?), and then either sell my maintenance plan (if AutoDesk haven't pulled the plug on it by then) or simply stop paying AD any more and stick with whatever version of Max.

A while away I guess, but were it not for the Viewport issue, I'd say 2017 is about as stable as 2014 for me right now (i.e. 2014 is by no means a rock solid version, afaiac).

The forum moderators on the Autodesk support forum are being proactive, so they are listening. For me, it was and is Walls&Tiles, but it has to do with AD and WIN10. I know that ParkViz is working with AD.

I must say Bobby, since reading your woes regarding W&Ts I haven't bothered installing any Vizpark plugins - purchased a bit on a whim and not really gotten that on with them tbh.

It's the combination of VIZPARK, MAX 2017, and WIN10. You don't have to have a Walls&Tiles element in your scene for it to screw things up, it just has to be installed.

They (the upper management above the 3dsmax team) fired the Viewport team before 2017 was released, there are lots of bugs to fix and not many people who know how to fix them at the moment.

That's bad enough for me !

Vizpark plugins always sound nice on paper, my experience isn't that smooth with them though.
