  • Grass with VrayFur? How?

Ever since "flat normals" was removed from VrayFur I'm unable to achieve good-looking grass. Before I could enable this option and use Vray2sidedMtl to create nice looking grass. Now that "flat normals" is removed, as per the new recommendations we now have to use VrayHairMtl with VrayFur in order to get flat hair strands which is necessary for realistic grass blades. The problem is that I can't create a good-looking grass with VrayHairMtl. It just looks lifeless, with no reflections & translucency. Is it possible to still create grass with VrayFur now that "flat normals" is removed and how?

    Thanks in advance!

Can you show us two example scenes + render outputs of the grass you made with earlier V-Ray version where the flat normals option was still available in another one with VrayHairMtl?

Sure, I'll try to send some examples when I find some free time. In general, the grass made with VrayHairMtl looks bad to me because it has stranger (more unrealistic IMO) SSS than what Vray2SidedMtl produces. And also it doesn't have real reflections, just speculars which might work good for hair but it just doesn't cut it when rendering grass blades as they are much more wider and need to catch real reflections from the sky and other environment. Just my observations, I might be wrong.
