  • High-End Quality Render Settings for Animation with V-ray 3ds Max

    Hello,

just a question for high-end quality animation renderings with V-ray, (similar quality renderings as Pixar, Ubisoft,...etc)

is Bruteforce/Bruteforce the best for a fully animated scene with high details and high-end quality Renders?

What do (Unbiased) bruteforce and biased bruteforce means? what's the difference between them ? and is it good for rendering a High-end product?
PC Specs: CPU i9-14900K - GPU RTX 4090 - RAM 192GB 5200MHz - MB Asus ROG Maximus Dark Hero

Brute / brute is very simple to work with as you can tell from rendering a single frame if the quality is clean enough for you - bad quality in brute force shows up as noise or grain so you can visibly see if the results are good enough for your purposes on a single image. With the other methods which don't calculate on a per pixel basis, you have to look at a few frames in a row to see if there's any flickery artifacts which is a bit less convenient.

It very much depends what type of animation you're talking about though, if you've got an animation where a camera is flying through a static scene such as a wide establishing shot of a city or landscape, you can get great results and significant speed benefits from one of the undersampling methods like irradiance map. If you've got a scene where lots of things are moving and not just the camera, it's safer to stick with either brute and light cache or brute and brute.

For interior animations where things are moving, you might find using brute and brute can be a bit darker as you set the limit for the amount of times the light bounces with brute / brute. With brute and light cache, the light cache light calculates up to 100 bounces of the light which leads to a brighter scene.

Perhaps a good thing for you to do is start here...

      https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/VRAY3MAX/GI+tab

...and work your way though the GI Tab Help. Plenty of good info there of Brute Force, Biasing, etc., etc.

      Have fun,
