  • Should we be careful with the 3Ds Max perspective match - utility?

    Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anyone of you encountered any problems with the perspective match tool that got introduced in 3Ds max 2016. While I thought for quite a while that it's just approximating camera lens and distance, today I've found out that it's actually overwriting Transformation Matrix of the Camera in order to distort the view.

Can this lead to Problems? Should we rather not use the perspective match tool?

    Thanks

I suppose if you are that worried about it, you could setup the camera with perspective match and get it just the way you like it. Then Press P to go to perspective view. Create a new camera anywhere in the scene and with it selected then press Control C to make it match your perspective view which was already a duplicate of your transformed camera. I'm not sure it's necessary but if you do that the 2nd camera won't have Xform changes.

    Best,
    Alfred

If you use all 3 axis to match, it may non-uniform scale camera to force to match.
If you use only 2 axis, most of time it is OK.

When I got non-uniform scaled camera, I just reset scale.
Often it give me close enough result.

If you stay on max, you can render with non-uniform scaled camera without much problem.
If you want to send thew camera to other package, well.. that's a different story.
