  • Progressive render stops

    Hi guys,
when I setup my bucket render with min/max samplers 1/12, and switch to progressive it stops after a while with still some noise in the render. Time is set to 0.
    1/12 looks perfectly clean.

It would be best to get us a scene for debugging to support@chaosgroup.com, since I'm not sure what happens right away.

    Best regards,

After reading a bit about it it could be due to min shading rate and that ratio. Will try to change it.

vlado...not sure if there was a discussion lately but is there now a suggestion to not use gamma anymore? Since I see default for your quicksettings is no gamma.

One more thing, since I had issues when I was using low lighting values in my scenes and camera shutter rates of 0.1, I am now using the opposite in this new scene. Instead of reducing sun to .003 I increased the sky mult on my dome to 10 and reduced the sun only slightly. Now my camera is shutter 100 and f value about 4. But now when I use light (ies or vray) I need multipliers of about 20 000. I feel weird using that (and wrong) haha but is that normal? Are there official values for normal well light interiors (many windows)?
      thx

I'm not sure if you are talking about LWF but if you were the default settings of the latest version of 3dsMax and V-Ray are tweaked for LWF so there no need to tweak anything.

Regarding the intensity values I don't understand why you are using such extreme values for the lights and etc.
Do you really need so small/big numbers?

I'll send my scene so you guys see why the render stops after a while.
About LWF...not sure about the defaults since my MAX is set to gamma on and 2.2
So should I turn it off so gamma is 1.0?

Intensities...my sun is set to 1.0, sky to 6.0 (so the sun burns the surface less), and with those values other lights are not visible unless I use these high multipliers. But you can check it all out. Sending now.
          thx

Something weird is happening with progressive or I'm not setting it up correctly.

I have a test room, if I put min shading rate of 1 and the render time is 1.53 (more noise)
If I put min shading rate of 80 it renders for 1.48 and it has less noise.

In both instances it stops too soon if you consider min/max subdivs is 1/100.

Found why it was stopping...noise threshold needs to be 0.0 right? If I want it to add as much detail as it can.

Yes, if you want it to continue until the max subdivs or time then you'll have to set the noise threshold to 0.0. The V-Ray log should contain a message why the progressive sampler stopped.

Oh, forgot to check vray log too. Still it would be cool if you guys checked the lights in that scene too and if it's correct that I use such high multpliers on lights to make them visible under those camera/sun/sky settings, or if I'm doing something wrong.
                  thx

In my opinion it's normal to use such high values for the size of those lights. Also the sun-light increases the brightens a lot and it will be very hard for those small lights to cause such strong effect. In other words if those lights where set in a dark room they would produce the same effect with very small multiplier value. The same example will be to turn on a light bulb in a bright sunny room and you will hardly notice the light increase.

Yes, makes sense. Values seamed weird to me so I thought I was doing something wrong. Just wanted to check if this is normal.
                      thx
