  • Coloured Shadows and Daylight saving.

    Hi

I use vray to render shadow analysis a lot and I have 3 questions.

    1. Daylight saving on or off?, I always leave it on as it's is practiced in my time zone.

    2. Is it possible to have different coloured Shadows, eg Red for New, Blue for Old?

    3. A time stamp frame, I could never find a script for this that works with the up to date Max 2017 for example.

    Thank you

Presumably your region only has daylight saving time at certain times of the year; so you only check 'daylight saving' for those times.
All the box does is offset the sun position (EDIT: forward) by an hour so you don't have to worry about compensating for it yourself.

Be sure to have it OFF in winter (or whatever months your jurisdiction uses non-DST time), as otherwise your shadows will still be an hour offset.

3ds Max has no way to know what the rules are in your particular jurisdiction; that's why it's a manual check box.

      Thank you
But.... In the clocks go back and hour in winter and forward in summer.

So for example..,March 21st day light saving should be on?

In Summer June 21st Daylight saving should be on also.

So September 21st On or Not?

It's a little confusing as it lasts all year round surely..........

Thank you again for your time.

Sorry, yes meant to say it puts the sun forward an hour, not back.

Your other question is hard to answer, because I don't know which timezone or jurisdiction you're in.
Here in NZ for example, we have DST from September to April (our spring, summer, and a bit of autumn), so for showing sun position during between those months, I tick the Daylight Saving box.

You need to turn the checkbox OFF for renders outside of daylight saving, otherwise your sun position will still be forward by an hour when it shouldn't be.
