  • Autodesk Stingray with v-ray Support?

    Hello,

any idea about an upcoming V-ray version to Stingray implementation? so we can import a scene from 3ds max with v-ray materials to stingray and surf around with the oculus in real-time? or there is any other standalone software for example that does this>?

We are looking at a number of real-time options; unfortunately Stingray is not currently among them.

Vlado - what are you looking at for realtime implementation? I saw Cl3ver at AU - anything else?

Thanks for the pointer, but it's unlikely to happen - just not enough resources for it.

            Sorry for the misunderstanding Vlado,
This was addressed to Oliver, as the Stingray team could be doing something about this, we never know . He should try it out,
I know you guys at Chaosgroup are quite busy, that's not what I meant, once again sorry...

I'm just curious about this, but what is the technology/engine behind Enscape for Revit? Have you had a look at it? Are they using Unity/Unreal or something else as backbone?

I'm really noticing adaption of this tool in the Revit market and it would seem to me that an RT version supporting Revit (Autodesk physical?) materials should be able to produce similar results. It would then potentially be easy to move scenes over to Max/Vray for more artistic control. (If we could have an Autodesk material translator as well.)

That's a real shame and a missed opportunity. I've just talked about this in the Hololens thread, but in my view Stingray is going to be the preferred platform for realtime archviz - not just among artists, but at architecture and design firms as well. Stingray naturally gets bashed left and right by users of Unreal and Unity, but the fact that it lives nicely in the AutoDesk ecosystem is what's going to drive it's usage. Unlike those two game engines, AutoDesk clearly recognizes that great support and tutorials are vital. It comes down to this: If you're working in a relatively fast turn-around environment, in which you've already done renderings and/or animated film in Max/V-Ray (often based on Revit models at most A&D firms), Stingray offers the better workflow.

If Chaos created their own game engine - with all the interactivity options - that would be great. What's not going to be great is any partnership in which I would still have to manually fiddle with FBX files and material/lighting generation from scratch.

Is there a road map of when items like are going to be released?
Be nice to know whats on the ay so we don't invest in the wrong headgear, or other software if Chaosgroup are going to release a Real-time integrated engine.

                  Thank you

Eventually probably yes - where there is something meaninful to be released.

Erh, what? Aside from the Revit > realtime interoperability Stingray is still lacking majorly in everything else. Unity and Unreal have excellent support/tutorials, not to mention a huge community. So I really don't know where you get that idea.

Latest 3dsmax Interactive (basically Stingray) imports Vray materials and converts them. Does a pretty good job.
3dsmax Interactive is obviously limited compared to UE and Unity but the import/export process is light years faster and more than makes up for it.
