  • Progressive Samples

    Hi,
one thing I'm always wondering about is: How many progressive passes are one primary sample?
The help file isn't clear about this.

The picture gets cleaner two times on pass 0 till it jumps to pass 1.
And at the end of a rendering the image usually gets >500 passes although 100 samples are maximum.
I have no clue how these are connected.
That makes it hard to deal with the min/max samples.

1 pass is 1 primary ray per pixel and [min shading rate value] amount of secondary rays per pixels. But it's not max samples, but max subdivs. So value of 100 is actually 100*100=10 000. The reason your render did not reach 10 000 passes is because adaptive noise threshold has stopped it when it was clean enough, which was at your >500 passes
