  • Goldleaf material - tips?

    Hi all

I often need to make a goldleaf for ceilings and just fake it with a texture or two. This time, I will be farely close to to it. Any tips for making a NICE one for a LARGE surface?
    Kind Regards,
    Morne

Hmm.. Procedural? Perhaps Voronoi noise bump and glossiness.

yes, this is the way I would go (BerconNoise is good for that)

Composite of several Noise ? or/and mix of several maps

Sometime, I have to go with mixing of mix of mix of mix (!) or Composite or VrayComptex, VrayBlend, etc
Anything that can give you several layers ...
Not sure that this is the best method for this one, I will try with Composite with various Bercon Noise, this could be a good basis for the beginning

I would use 2 different gold leaf materials in a vrayblend with some kind of rough concrete/plaster map mask.

I thought you need it for a detail AND a wide surface!
I'm agree with Vizioen ... Some good maps of some kind of rough concrete / plaster mixing with noise as mask could do that

I would go with procedural.. compositing noise maps.
I made a quick preview: Click image for larger version

Good luck getting that to work on large surfaces without fiddling for hours to get rid of the generic look of noise maps. You'd might want to use a texture in combination to break up those "repeating" noise patterns.

It wont be same as using tex but here is a 20x20m plane with the same mat: https://www.dropbox.com/s/exp34ogbux...x20mf.jpg?dl=0

The procedural approch could be the way to go if you have a wide surface... but nothing prevents you from using tex+procedural
I do that every single day

This proves a little bit my point A little bit of trained eye can clearly see the noise 'pattern'.

As i said.. a quick preview. Still there will be differences between proceduarals and tex. And yes.. a trained eye will notice the difference in a flat surface 20x20m
