  • Complex Matte Shadows how to set up?

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone could give me some pointers on how you're supposed to set up matte shadows for more complext geometry other than a plane.

So what I want is a shadow to be cast from an object and fall onto multiple different pieces of geometry.

Here are some trials I did but the shadows seem to be missing in the place I need them, the shadow from the large box should be cast across all of the objects and should therefore shade the back facing geometry but those areas are not shaded.

If anyone has any tutorials I could follow or any workarounds, let me know. Is this supposed to be a simple process or is this where it gets more complicated?

      Thanks for the reply

No, that doesn't look right because there is no shadow on the back face of the boxes, the box casting a shadow should shade everything on the other side like in the render without Matte Shadow I posted, or else if you had an actual box geometry in the backplate that you needed a shadow to be cast over you'd get a very strange looking image where the shadow falls onto the box and goes past it but does not actually shade the back face.

      Cheers.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. There are no shadows on the back faces cause all boxes are touching each other.

I don't mean the parts that are touching each other I mean these parts shaded in red, they should all have shadows cast onto them, because the large shadow casting box would block all light from hitting the back side, not just the tops.

Has anyone had any thought on this, or is there no solution?
