I guess I should buy autodesk shares rather than software.

If you want to make money, I guess . I said it in another post. If your focus isn't your client, then you'll fail. I know this is a video to their investors, but nothing was said about their user's needs, except that they are banking on the big firms to make them rich.

How about buying their shares and software... Should balance things out in the end if all goes according to AD's plan
Unless of course their shares tank because of this rental-only stupidity, while the software prices keep rising to offset the losses. Then we would be screwed from both ends, eh?

They want to secure their income for their investors....

Which leaves their customers having to secure their income to be able to use the software... They've shifted the buck.... literally. But with no incentive to be inventive or offer any real value-for-money for their end users. Sad, I hear that 3dsmax brings in a lot more than they spend on the development of it!

The next recession is going to be very harsh on the subscription model!

Again, Vlado.... you've got half the DCC app already! Build your own Clarrisse/Katana type app and you'll have all of our support and business!

AD nowday mostly care about profits and not users... Its been taken over by Suits and not artists so well... It is what it is. Run away if you can ! Pray AD wont takeover next CGI company.

AD was never that much artist driven anyway. If you look at their stats, the media and entertainment department sales numbers are quite modest compared to the building and construction products

Vlado and team should already know the inner workings of almost any 3D app after spending almost 2 decades coding for them. They just need to assemble a team of passionate people and give AD a run for their money.

Even if they started working today on a complete DCC software I don't expect to have anything usable in production before 5 years at least.

It's not realistic to expect a full blown 3dsmax replacement from day one. However, they could start with serving the ArchViz industry. Much less demanding in terms of required features.
What would your basic requirements be?

I think they could start with lighting studio/real time raytracer.

                      Something like Keyshoot/Vred/Bunkspeed etc etc.

Where we can click in max "send to Vray" and open it up over there. Then we can do lighting/shading/render layers/python support/etc/etc/etc. Once that works adding modeling tools/animation/others could be done in stages/modules... Just my 2cents of what I would love to get.
