  • Vray Material Library with Vray 3.5?

    Mornin.

I have just watched the Sketchup Vray video and it looks great.
I noticed the material libraries look great and I take it are included with sketchup.....

Why have standard material for arch viz never been released for the MAX version of Vray when installed for example.
Would seem like a sensible thing to do.

    Are they coming .?

    Thank you

    Phil

They are .vrmat files, you should be able to load them in V-Ray for 3ds Max too through the VRayVrmatMtl material. Although I suppose native 3ds Max materials would be more useful for Max guys... will see what can be done about it.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

      Thank you.

I feel like a kid being answered by Walt Disney about a cartoon question.

I've long sought a solution that would let me easily convert a .vrmat into a VrayMTL in Max. Years back I downloaded all the .vrmat libraries and started trying to use in Max, but quickly stopped once I realized the vrmat editor was such a departure from the regular Max material workflows. Especially now that the Vrmat editor can't be accessed within Max 2017, I know you're working on a standalone editor, but personally I'd rather have a script that reads the vrmat and crate a Max VrayMTL (though i acknowledge that doesn't help the SketchUp or Revit users...)

Don't mean to hijack this thread but it caught my eye since I'm wondering about adding my own .vrmat libraries to the Vray Asset Editor pre-installed library. I know I can find it C:\Program Files\Chaos Group\V-Ray\V-Ray 3.4 for SketchUp\extension\materials\ but what I can't figure out is how to get the cool previews for the .vrmat like what I see in the Asset Editor. Any thoughts? Thanks.

I'm tying to convert all the designers in my company to 3dsmax/Vray! They are currently using Keyshot for quick product rendering of their Solidworks/Catia models. The workflow in Keyshot is pretty fast, and it is all done with interactive rendering. But keyshot is not as fast as V-ray, has no GPU rendering, and can not be used for complex animations, so whenever we need to make an animation I have to redo a lot of stuff in 3dsmax.

A Preset material Library for Max would be a great help for convincing them to use 3dsmax. I'm currently looking to see if something good is available commercially. I saw that Evermotion had sold some previously, but I couldn't find them on their site any more. If anyone can reccomend another solution it would be appreciated!

Maybe one day Chaousgroup will make a standalone program with a similar workflow to Keyshot and with Vray scene import/export to 3dsmax/maya etc?
