  • Network rendering crashes in IR (animation mode) maybe related to 3.5 release

In our office we're currently trying to render a fairly complex animation using time-interpolated irradiance maps. The prepass portion rendered fine locally but crashed on the render farm (via backburner). I did a quick test rendering all the precached maps locally and had the same issue with rendering the actual frames for the animation: they worked fine locally but crashed over the network. I believe the issue is specific to the irradiance map being set to animation mode because the animation renders just fine over the network in IR single frame mode. Its hard to say if this is related to the 3.5 update but we updated around the same time. Below is the backburner server error.

An unexpected exception has occurred in the network renderer and it is terminating. 3dsmax adapter error: the pipe has been ended. :109 3dsmax adapter error

If anyone has an idea of what the problem may be- that would be great, thanks!

    Is it reproducible?

    Best regards,

We'll build a dummy scene and see if it still crashes, thanks

Ok so everything works fine in a new test scene, so must just be a problem with this file...we used a lot of plugins we've never tried before for animating people...

But instead of trying to figure out the problem we just ended up just using brute force with adaptive lights- the render times are pretty fast! Much easier process too in terms of render setup. Guess we should've just tried that to begin with....
