  • VRAYLIGHT + transparency in reflection

i was wondering if it possible to get the reflection of a vraylight to have some transparency.
if i put a vraysoftbox texture in the texture slot of a vraylight, all the black area of the texture gets reflected black (which is normal) but i would love if there was a way to make these black parts non visible in the reflection ?

you can use a composite map and add that softbox map to the mask and use whatever map (like vraycolor) in the texture part. It may help.

I realise this isn't much help for vraysoftbox but if you ever use VRayHDRI to load a map for a light, you can set the Alpha Source to 'Intensity' and this usually does the trick.

            Same question was asked here.
Even thought the suggestion here definitely works, as I wrote there i would use a simple Output Map with "alpha from intensity" checked. I try to stay away from the max composite map since it used to slow down renders (but it's possible it isn't like that anymore).

thanks for posting the thread. I did a search before posting my question, and did not find any relevant thread. I guess you have to use the right words for the search to be really efficient.

What I usually do when I map a light is put an Output Map on top and check Alpha from RGB Intensity. In fact I wish this was an option in VrayLight itself so I could skip the output map part.
