  • VRLServer shows Closed Connection

I have emailed chaos about this -- but I'm afraid they might be gone for the weekend.

I just installed vray and got my authorization code. I'm running VRLServer and have opened up it's monitor window (by doubleclicking its icon in the system tray).

When I run max, I've tried using 127.0.0.1 and localhost, but max keeps saying it can't obtain a license. HOWEVER... the server monitor window keeps showing connections coming in.

Each time I start max and switch the renderer to Vray, the server adds a line with the date and time, 127.0.0.1, port 1222 and says "New connection." It then adds a second line immediately afterward that has the date and time, 127.0.0.1, port 1222, and "Closed connection". I'm guessing that connection shouldn't be closing.

Can anyone tell me if that I'm correct -- and how to prevent the probelm?

My problem occurred with v5.* of Zone Alarm Security Suite (you can search for that topic here too). Turns out that only UNINSTALLING the suite would solve the problem -- not just merely turning off the firewall.

HOWEVER, I've installed Zonealarm Suite 6.1 more recently and have not had any problems. I did go into the config for Zone Alarm and make sure that Vray and Max had full access. You might also want to check the component level configurations too.

          solved my problem another way.

File and Print sharing appearantly must be turned ON.
Once I did that it was working perfectly. They should put that in their documentation.
This machine was a brand new install and I didn't do it so I didn't really notice that.

Letting the 3dsmax.exe access the Net, can also be a solution.
