  • 1.09 or 1.45

I'd like to change from 1.09 to 1.45.
I have some works in progress. The 1.09 version works fine for me, but I know that lightmap is faster and better at second bounces.

    I've got a few questions:

    1) Would you recommend the 1.45 version? or do u think it has too many bugs? (Since I've got a strict deadline for my work, I can't waste my time in trying to solve bugs problems)

    2) Are the two versions compatible or do I need to re-set the values? (material and lights)
    3) Can I install 1.45 without deleting the 1.09 version?

    Thanx in advance.

Id recommend you not change versions. I think most would agree.

I agree with percydaman, during productions do not switch software or renders. However from previous experience transfering from older versions of vray to new ones has been no problems.
vray 1.457 seems to be less buggy then any other versions, plus all the new features.

You should never change any part of your software during a project ... you just never know .. wait till your project ends then have a play with it.

yeah I agree...don't change renders in mid production......I keep 1.09 around for oder projects started w/ that, and I use 1.45 for any new project......I tried using 1.45 on a 1.09...it was a bad idea.
1.45 just simply stoped in the middle of the rendering.......the scene was fairly simple, and I never had the time to investigate what the issue/s were, but I think is wise not to mix things up

Like the others say, don't switch during a project. However, if you are between projects I would reccomend trying it out. I've switched to 1.45.70 for production work here and would never want to go back to 1.09.03n now.

We recently switched before starting a major project, after a few days we switched back.

Richard, may I ask what caused you to switch back?

                  Instability?

                  Unpredictability?

I waited until mine was done and installed it the moment after....smooth sailing ever since. Lightmap rocks.

no way i would go back to 1.09.

this works fine because we do usualy rather smaler projects that are easier to handle as big productions. but the lightmap alone is worth it.

Ok I am convinced! Now, could I please get a recompile of the 1.45 to work in Autodesk Viz 4? I bought advanced 2 weeks ago and am eager to get all the new functions.

                          Please, please, please!!!

Is it possible to run both versions on the same machine?

I'm having problems with RPC's etc. in 1.45, and would like to go back and render images containing RPC's etc. in 1.09.......any suggestions?
