  • saving solution every n frames

Is it possible to get max/vray to save the solution it is creating every 'n' frames just in case of network errors?

well yes if you use incremantal add ..... it will add every "Nth" frame you have told it to ..... this is the method for creating walkthrough animaitions.. as long as you have auto save on...should be ok

Sorry - I didn't explain myself correctly. I meant that I want the actual solution saved to disk every n frames.

EG - I'm currently rendering every 10th frame on incremental add. If there is a network failure, I will loose all the solution calculated so far. Can I tell it to be saved to disk after every 10th frame calculated (so on frame 100, 200, 300 etc it waill svae the IRMAP to disk)
      Kind Regards,

i think the only way to do that ... (dont quote me) is to stop the calcs and phisically save it your self...

Mmmm - that could definately be improved. Generally I, and I'm sure most people, leave solutions going overnight and cross their fingers that there have been no mishaps during the night when they come in the following morning. I left 4 solutions going last night, and for some unknown reason, the network temporarily failed at some point through the night. All four solutions are now unusable as they have only recorded the frames since the outage.

If this IS the case, a partial solution is to send more, much smaller, jobs to the network and combine them together using the IRMAPVIEWER app. The significant problem here is that the first frame of every segment takes significantly longer than all subsequent ones.
