I would like to switch to online licensing but when i take a way my dongle and deactivate the dongle my license is gone.

The Online Licensing Button is green and shows no license available (License Server 4.3.1).

Is there a particular reason you want to switch to the online licensing? We are a little cautious about it and would prefer it to be tested in practice a little longer before we feel comfortable with existing dongle users moving their licenses. We can do it if you really want to, we are just careful about it.

    Best regards,

today i had a problem with Backburner ... my renderslaves rendered black images ... that?s when i thought it might be related to the license

Everything else ... incl. distributed rendering ...works fine as far as i see

So the backburner issue was the reason why i thought about it .... but may be the problem can be solved an other way ???

btw i use 2017 and the latest nightly !!!

I see; it would be best to contact our support guys to support@chaosgroup.com and they will help you figure out what's wrong.

In the meantime you can look at the backburner and V-Ray log outputs and see if there are any errors. The V-Ray log file is called vraylog.txt and is normally in the temporary folder for the user account that runs the backburner server.

If the dongle is working fine for you, there's no reason to change it

If we do want to switch over for the flexibility of the online system, would we email support?

I'm assuming that with this online license server one can access their license with an internet connection without the need to be connected to the network the license server is on (physically or through VPN)? We are very interested in switching over to the online license server if that is the case. It would be nice to allow access to the license offsite without carrying the dongle around or remoting into the network.

Let me know what I need to do to switch over to the online license server from our existing dongle system.

              Best,
              Clayton

As mentioned in our website: our existing licensing system does not allow migration of licenses from dongles to OLS. We are actively working on a fast and reliable license migration tool, which will be released in the middle of 2017.
Please be a little more patient.

Most definitely we will be patient in the migration process. I missed the note of this on your website, my apologies.

So as it stands, the use of the Online License Manager for the license server is out of the question completely for dongle users? Even as a replacement for the original license manager? As in... be used the same way on the local network as the old one without using the online functionality?

Setting up a new farm with on Linux boxes and trying to troubleshoot why our licenses aren't picking up from the Vray License server. If we need to use an older version of the license management software to be compatible with our dongles then that's fine, but I'd like to confirm that is the case.

Cheers and thank you for the timely reply.

The latest version of V-Ray license server 4.3.1 can be used with both online based V-Ray license(tied to your username) and dongle based V-Ray license(located on your USB physical drive).
So if you wish you can use your V-Ray license which resides on your dongle with the old V-Ray license server(3.05.03) or with the latest V-Ray license server 4.3.1(which supports online based V-Ray license as well).
This way if you are using only a dongle, you can continue working with the latest V-Ray license server just like the old one, you only need to install it, open "localhost:30304" in your web browser and click on "Enable>Dongle" (Make sure that the wibu/dongle driver is installed on the machine - www.wibu.com).

If you are able to open into the web browser from any machine in the local area network "ip_address:30304"( where ip_address is the ip address of the machine, where dongle resides and V-Ray license server is installed),
and you can see your V-Ray licenses there and your V-Ray client license settings is set to point to the same machine (https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...ServerSettings),
then please just simply start using V-Ray. Let us know if you have any other questions or simply write us at support@chaosgroup.com
