  • DR and License Question

    Good day all,

I'm trying to figure out an issue I'm having with setting up DR on a new RenderPro. I believe I have almost everything set up correctly.

I can run the Back Burner on a non V-Ray scene and it will render on the RenderPro. I have launched the V-Ray DR Spawner on the RenderPro. I have License Server 4.3.1 running on my workstation and the RenderPro. I have the Firewall and virus scan turned off. I can ping back and forth between the workstation and the RenderPro. I can render on the workstation, no issues. When I check my License Server, it indicates there is a V-Ray for 3DS Max 3.0 Interface Free and Render Node 3.0 Free.

When I go to the render setup and select distributed rendering and look at my settings, the RenderPro is shown and checked and I have Use Local Host checked off because I want the RenderPro to do all of the processing. When I start the rendering, things look like they are starting but the V-Ray Messages indicates the following:

Server 192.x.x.x:20204: Scene Loaded: Starting Render
    Server 192.x.x.x:20204: Could not obtain a License ( -98 )
    Server 192.x.x.x:20204 excluded from render
    Server 192.x.x.x:20204: Render completed
warning: Render Host RenderPro (192.x.x.x:20204) is not responding

Then I have to cancel the rendering. Do I need to purchase an additional render node for the RenderPro even though I'm not using my workstation for rendering?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Owen

Is it possible to provide us with your dongle SN or your e-mail address/username which is used in our web site www.chaosgroup.com, so that we can check your V-Ray license in our database?
Also please confirm how many machines are you using and did you changed your V-Ray client license settings, in order your machines to point to the machine where V-Ray license resides:

      Good day again,

I wanted to update the progress so far.

I have found that I'm able to run backburner to process the rendering on the RenderPro. I'm still unable to render with Distributed Rendering. I'm still receiving the error ( -98 ) no license message.

I'm curious if I'm doing something wrong in how I start the rendering for DR-

I start the RenderPro and start the DR Spawner. Is it necessary to start backburner? I have tried both ways and it doesn't seem to make a difference.

In Max, I go to my Setting tab and click the Distributed Rendering and verify that the RenderPro is clicked and Use Local Host is Unclicked. Start the rendering. Then the error message appears about no available license.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

      Thanks

Just as a follow up, my issues seem to be resolved.

I downloaded the latest version of V-Ray to 3.50.4 and reinstalled on both the workstation and the RenderPro and an additional license was added to my dongle.

Both the added license and the update happened before the next rendering test took place - so I'm not sure which issue resolved it but needless to say I'm relieved to be able to run again.

Hope this might help anyone who may stumble across this issue in the future.

        Have a good day
