  • New user...Old Questions ?!?!

After collecting dust for over 5 years I upgraded my MAX3 to the latest and also bought myself VRay Advanced. I still have to get it on my doorstep and here I am already with some questions (I have read a lot in this forum but I could not find straight solutions for my problem):

Can I save the irradiance map for diffuse and indirect lighting only, and use that afterwards for my animation combining it with the direct lighting from MAX? This way I can BAKE the diffuse lighting in the moving elements (waving trees, walking characters, cars, etc) without doing direct GI (or composite the moving parts afterwards) and WIN on rendertimes!!!

Can the brightness of the irradiance map be tuned (in brightness/color) afterwards ? When doing day2night scenes I don't want the renderhit from direct GI, so I want the subtle lighting from the irradiance map and the gross lighting change from direct MAX-lighting. In this case however I need to dim and color-tune the lighting from the irradiance map when sun sets.

I'm not looking for physically correct and realistic behaviour, just for fast - simulated - solutions.

If this is not possible already, just yell and I put this in "feature requests".

    Thanks,
    Rik

Welcome again in the forum and a good decision.

      Well that was many questions.

first, if you´ve got your advanced version of vray you alsoget access to the new beta.

with the beta you can render out several passes from vray. look at this link

      http://www.spot3d.com/vray/help/VRayHelp150beta/
      ´
      and especially
      http://www.spot3d.com/vray/help/VRay...es_gbuffer.htm

to render moving objects will make thinkgs muchmore difficult.
here you have to render in singele frame modus or with fake gi solutions.

      look at this thread.

      good luck.

          Hi Tom,

I just found the manual you mentioned and indeed I also found the answers to my questions (see above). Having read a big part I think I am going to have a nice time with VRay (Advanced: the only way to go pro). Since I still have some large projects to do in Lightwave and Lightscape it will still take some months before starting something in MAX But in the meantime I can practice a lot and start spilling problems over here.

          Cheers

          Rik
