  • The new licensing system?

    Hi all,
I am a little confused about the new licensing system implemented in 3.5, I just upgraded from 3.4. I do travel a lot and run Max/VRay on a mobile workstation and when back at office I hook up to my renderfarm. The dongle is always connected to my mobile workstation. I have always started the license server manually (not as a service) as I found that most reliable.

With the new system I don?t have to start the server manually as I understand. Yet, I want something that always works without internetconnection when working on a train etc. And when back at office, my farm needs to find the license. So I should continue using the dongle I guess.

Well, I am a little confused as you hear, what is the most reliable license solution for me and how should it be set up?

    Thanks!!

If you had a dongle up until now you will continue using it in the same fashion, no matter what version of the V-Ray license server you have. You are not required to have an internet connection with a dongle licensing.

The new V-Ray license server client, which you install on your machine, now is automatically registered as a service and it will start each time your system boots, so you don't need to worry about it anymore.

      Thanks!

But when I go http://localhost:30304/#/ it says online licensing is activated. Should that be deactivated if I want to use license on the dongle?

Being logged in is only mandatory when you have an online licensing. In your case it does not do anything, since you do not have licenses which are online and it should not alert you.

The important thing here is to have your dongle up and running.

ok, so if I understand correctly there are now two options.
          1. License on dongle works exactly as before BUT license server is always running as a service. In 3.5 it must be running as a service and cannot be started manually.
          2. No dongle, license is online. One need to be connected to the internet to have VRay/Phoenix working correctly at all times.
          Is that correct?
