  • V-Ray 3.5 + Dongle DR not working

    Hello,

I face the problem that I cant`t use DR with V-Ray 3.5 for 3ds Max 2016. I use a Dongle for licensing on my workstation.
V-Ray works fine on the workstation, but when I want do use the nodes for VR they are not recognised.
Before I used V-Ray 3.0 with 3ds Max 2014 for years and DR worked fine with all nodes.

When I use Backburner the first Backburner server which starts works fine, in all other Backburner server pop-up windows I get the error message that the V-Ray license was not found.

Would be very tahnkfull for suggestions as I can`t use my nodes at the moment.

    Thanks Max

The first things to check are:

    1. Do you have enough licences on your dongle for DR and network rendering?
    2. are all the render slaves using the same versions/builds of V-Ray?
    3. If you are using the services for the render slaves, do the services have the rights to access the rest of the network?
    4. if the license/dongle is on your workstation have a look at http://localhost:30304/#/ to check if its running properly and if you have enough render node licenses.
    5. is there a firewall blocking access?
    Cheers,

First make sure that the same version of 3ds Max and V-Ray 3.5 is installed on your machines also make sure that Backburner 2016 is installed too.
Then please make sure that the V-Ray client license settings is set to all of the machines to point to the machine where dongle resides:
      https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...cense+Settings

Are you starting vrayspawner2016 as a service or it is launched manually?
Is it possible to send us a screenshot or tell us what is the error license message that appears?
Please confirm how many machines are you using and please provide us with your dongle SN, so that we can check it.

        Hi Syclone1,

        thanks for teh reply:
I checkes your hints but unfortunately DR still is not working. See the answers below.

        1. Do you have enough licences on your dongle for DR and network rendering?
        I guess yes(see below)

        2. are all the render slaves using the same versions/builds of V-Ray?
Yes, plus the same version of the Vray Licensing server on all machines.

        3. If you are using the services for the render slaves, do the services have the rights to access the rest of the network?
At the moment I start the "Launch V-Ray DR Spawner" manually on the nodes.

        4. if the license/dongle is on your workstation have a look at http://localhost:30304/#/ to check if its running properly and if you have enough render node licenses.
On localhost:303304/#/ I see that the dongle is accepted, as it the box is green and not red. I can`t see my rendern node licenses there. When I bought the Vray 3.0 license I guess there were 5 Nodes included, I hoped that didn`t change in the meantime.
Anyway I use 2 nodes and they workes just fine with my previous setup (Max 2014 + Vray 3.0) with the same dongle.

        5. is there a firewall blocking access?
No, even the windows firewalls are shut off on all pc`s

        Best Markus

          Hello Stefan,

thanks for your advices. DR still is not working
I wrote the ansers to your hints below.

First make sure that the same version of 3ds Max and V-Ray 3.5 is installed on your machines also make sure that Backburner 2016 is installed too.
There is 3ds Max 2016 and V-Ray 3.50.04 installed on the workstation and the 2 nodes.

Then please make sure that the V-Ray client license settings is set to all of the machines to point to the machine where dongle resides:
The license server information is the IP Adress of the workstation on both nodes. On the workstation it is 127.x.x.1 The port on all 3 machines is xxxxx.

https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...cense+Settings The link is not working

Are you starting vrayspawner2016 as a service or it is launched manually? I start it manually on the nodes

Is it possible to send us a screenshot or tell us what is the error license message that appears?
The screenshot of the backburner error messgage is in the attachment. Using backburner the node is able to render a scene, when i try to start an additional backburner server(for examplae on the workstation) I get the error message in the attachment: Could not optain an license (-7) unrecognised license server response (old server version?)

It seems that only one machine is accepted to render on a scene.
There were problems with the Dongle when I switched from 3.0 to 3.5. I got some fix from Chaosgroup to make it work. Maybe the fix didn`t include the license of the render nodes? Please check this Stefan.

Please confirm how many machines are you using and please provide us with your dongle SN, so that we can check it.
          I use 3 machines.

              Thank you for your answer.
The error message -7 in most cases means that there is not enough V-Ray Render Node licenses.

We can see that on your dongle, there is 1 x GUI and 1 x Render Node 3.0 license, which means that you are able to render on one machine only.
Could you please send us an e-mail at support@chaosgroup.com with more details of your order and purchase, so that we can further check with our sales department.
Also please generate context.wbc file, and please send it back to us, so that we can further check your V-Ray license in your dongle.
How to do that, please follow the video below:

              Thank you.
