  • Shadows on little details.

    Hi,

I know this might be an allready talked about thread, but I can't get good results.
By the way, I'm new to interiors with VRay, so...

    I have this scene:

    And these settings:

    I'd really apreciate any help.
    Thank you!
    Guido.

your Imap setttings are way too low.....try this:

    max/min -3/-1 (or 0)
    clr thresh 0.25
    norm thresh 0.25
    dist thresh 0.2
    Interp samples 15 or 20

    in the photn map:

unckeck "Auto search dist" and set the "search dist" to 60 or 70
    also check "Convex hull area..."
up youe Interp samples to 12

    set Max density to 10....

these will increase your render times but should give you better results/detail...

yeah, as percey said, it will increase it a fair amount......and w/ a PIII it's gonna be slow......

but that's what you have to pay for good detail

a dual processor w/ hypertreading would be a good answer to high render times

I think gettings these details with a quasi monte-carlo approach really starts to reduce its speed advantage to a more direct computation approach. Especially with regards to undersampling.

don't know what that is. I don't think I have that.

                That'd be paradise!

I guess I 'm gonna correct photon map as cocolas said, with lighter QMC and clr tresh and norm tresh to 4.
I don't understand why cocolas said interp samples 15 or 20 though. I thought the higher the better.

                  Well, this ain't gettin' better.
This image took 2:25 hours!! and...it's not looking very happy

Does anybody knows how I can get better results with lower render times?

By the way, this was taken at 1024x768. I thought may be the problem was a dpi issue.

                  Thanks!

I cant open your scene for some reason. max just exits. but for AA use adaptive 0,3. try catmull rom and see how that helps. also lower AA threshold if needed.

Ok, here we go. Rendered on Athlon 2.7Ghz with Vray 1.45.70. (sorry, have no other Vray installed anymore)

Optimized Photon Map and render Settings. Adaptive QMC AA 1/4

Same Thing with Adaptive AA -1/2 (notice how the Adaptive AA smooths out all the per pixel Effects)

And now with Lightmap only! (Oh Vladimir, my lonely Hero... )

Here's are both Scenes (i deleted your BCam)
More Explanation tomorrow - have to sleep now.
