if its for rendering, you got all that proc. power, but you will be bottlenecking at the ram. I would get some more ram.

          Hi Flipside

How much sould a setup like this go for?
          Is it way overpriced?

dang that IS spendy. I would think if you chopped that in half, it might be a little more reasonable. I dont even see a monitor in that list.

EDIT: didn't see that scsi HD, so maybe 3 grand would be reasonable.

do you guys notice any difference when using dual Xeon systems?

in terms of generating IRmaps, rendering, responsiveness etc ?

im not convinced they are worth the $ yet!

the biggest advantage w/ Xeons over Athlons is Hypertreading......when I turn it on, it renders 25 to 30% faster......but otherwise they are not worth it price wise...

at home I have an older dual 1.7 GHZ athlons, and it was rendering as fast or close to my dual 2.4 GHZ Xeon at work w/ out hypertreding on.
so the Xeons alone (w/out hypertreading) are just over priced and really not worth it when put against the athlons....but when turning on hypertrading, you can definatly see a difference....epcially when crunching blurry reflections/refractions, and similars...
how ever many people around this board have been having issues w/ hypertrading, especially in animations......(do a search for it)

                  hope this helps,

                  paul.
