  • Urgent Job - request basic materials

    Hi everyone,

I have an urgent job, modelling a 20 story apartment block and rendering images by THIS COMING WEDNESDAY!

The developer is desperate, they have had 8 weeks to do 3d work based on CAD drawings that are severly lacking in detail. Another company had a go but the problem was that the 3D model was as simple as the CAD drawings (no window frames, doors - nothing!). Ive started from scratch with the modelling and am trying to get this done by tuesday morning which doesnt leave me any time to work on materials. Im fairly confident that I have a good idea about lighting now but materials is my problem.

Im new to Vray and pretty much suck with my materials at the moment and dont really have time to go through and fine tune everything to look good. So I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to help me out with some awesome looking materials ? I only really need some good looking basic materials such as:

Bone white wall render (with some texture)
Light creme/coffee wall render (slightly finer texture than above)
Dark blue-grey feature wall render (with some texture)
Very nice glass suitable for large scale building (clear)
Very nice glass suitable for large scale building (tinted black)
Very nice glass suitable for large scale building (tinted blue-green)
*they arnt sure what glass to use yet*
Subtle brushed metal finish for tube handrails
cobblestone paving for street level (whatever looks good!)
Coloured aluminium feature panels (white/red/blue/green/yellow etc)
light coffee-grey 300x300 balcony tiles with fine grey grout lines
a good green suitable for 3d plant leaves
    polished conc floor
light timber floor for ground floor store
white marble tiles for kitchen floor

These will be the main materials for the building and they are expecting this to look awesome. The images will be going into a brochure on wednesday (graphic designers already have the brochure done with spaces for images! lol).

If someone has a mat file they can send from a previous project they have worked on that has a similar material list, id really appreciate it.
If there are any other typical materials that would be used on high rise apartments that I havnt listed, please include them also. Actually the developer is really desperate so I'm sure I can get a promise of payment early next week to someone who can help make his building actually sell (because at the moment its looking like a HUGE 70million dollar flop)

Apologies for this totally innapropriate post and also to people who say "make your own damned materials!" ....there isnt enough time!

Im going to need the mat file by monday at the latest so I can muck around with it and do some test renders for the client. If anyone can help but doesnt want to make it available to everyone can you email me ? Also let me know how much $ your services will cost

Thanks guys, im going to make the hugest coffee ever now and put the 3D goggles back on

      crazy isnt it :P

cmon man i know you have some good materials right?

The problem with all of this is that even with a good material library there are so many things that can go wrong and its likely the images wont turn out that good because im not that good with vray yet. This is a really impossible deadline but saying no wasnt really an option for such a big job tough position to be in.

Even if we give you some mats, doesnt mean its still going to look good ..

yeah I know all i can do is ask though so if anyone has something for me to try then great. chances are i'll end up just making them myself based on mat files people have posted in other threads

Cmon guys your not helping him He said he is willing to pay for the help.

Paulison, if I were you I would stick mostly to standard materials you already have, for an exterior it will not hit the rendertimes too hard.

Hopefully someone can help you but until maybe look at these sites http://www.chaoticdimension.com/foru...ght=evermotion

thanks for the link, I'll do that.

Ive made a lot of mats that dont really look great which may more be to do with the model or lighting than anything but I guess the problem is that I dont trust my own material skills in Vray enough yet

I would like to say: if you use/own Vray and you're doing archi-viz rendering; I'm most surprised by the fact that you DO NOT have your own library.

im new to both viz and vray so my library consisted of a glass material, and a white material and thats all I had set up so far. Ive just been putting a diffuse texture on surfaces up till now which isnt really working...there are so many options for getting awesome effects out of materials in vray which is all new to me. I'll go back and make my own library after this job

                            re

Next time request samples or small scans of samples and color chips for paint and materials (a website link maybe)...this is part of your job to organize these materials so you can apply them in a linear fashion. 99% of the time I never have a stone that is requested so I use the sample they send me to go off of and modify a stone map in Photoshop that I already have to come fairly close. Paint is even easier...RGB values and bmp or displacement maps.
Indecisive archictects will be the death of us all.
