pretty much just that...my background image (sky) is bleeding blue splotches onto my exterior walls. how do i correct this?

Basically vray is using that image to illuminate your scene.
you need to override max's enviroment by switching on vray's ..

Your basically getting what you see in front of the camera also behind it. You need to use spherical enviro mapping for the GI lighting or a flat color or an HDRI optimally. Just stay away from screen mapping with GI

hmm...even just putting a solid color or jpg in vray enviro box still did it...but i will revisit it and look into the spherical enviro....thanks for all the help.

A solid color shouldn't do it. Maybe it's not as it appears.

As always... post a clear image of the problem as well as your GI and specific material settings so we can try to help.
