  • sorry if this was asked before.

is it possible with the new DR to distribute the maps to the render slaves?

it saves some time when you have to render small scenes from different sources and donĀ“t need to setup the map path.

    • Its pretty easy to just copy max's INI file to the slave nodes. This will give the salve nodes all the same configure as your machine, this will make sure 100% that all your paths are correct.

      • i asked if there will be a little checkbox like fR has, that makes it EASYER.

why should i prefer to copy ini files over having a checkbox in my renderer?

        • when you ask for a improvement for max on the discreet board then sure a smarta$$ will tell you how to do it with only 3 or 4 steps.

just look at the "still same problems" thread on the discreet forum.

most guys who ask for a special feature know how to make it without that feature. they ask because they want to make it work better!!

If you were talking about my reply, i wasnt doing it to be a smart ass. I always seen the send maps with scene as a fast way to fix setup problems. I was mearly mentioning that coping the INI file was easy to do. And it ensures that all the nodes have all the correct paths, gamma settings, plugins (if shared). Plus sending all the maps with the scene is a lot slower than just sending the scene by itself. I wasnt trying to tell him to do it this way, there are plenty of times the checkbox is needed, I was just letting people know that the ini file is also another way to ensure paths are correct.

When a question is asked on this forum, and the replys are not the exact answer to the question (like mine was). This doesnt mean that answer is useless. There are a lot of other people reading the forums, that can benefit from these alternative answers.

when using the turbosmooth modifier in max7, the crease information is passed to it, so it must be stored by max at some place. vray should be able to read this data too.

hmmmm... I see what you mean. It would make things easier. Nontheless, I hold my position. Focus on ironing out the issues and releasing the maya version. They are SO close.

and many other entrys in the ini maybe not correct for the specific system. simple overwriting is not the solution.

anyway, i have asked this question too.
maybe peter or vlado can answer this now?

will the final version have a option to distribute the maps?
