  • Can't get transparent glass

I've recently started implementing Vray in most of the 3D work I do, because it's so much more efficient. I'm using Vray materials, and I've been messing around with all its settings, but can't get the light to pierce through my glass and make the shadows lighter. I've got some reflection on the material and refraction set to white. I messed with the translucency, but it doesn't seem to do anything. Am I overlooking something so simple?

make sure affect shadows are checked.

Ah, ok. But now the glass turned very dark.

Ok, I've tweaked it to my liking, but now the 'affect shadow' doesn't even work. Below is my screenshot, the one with the arrow pointing to it is the one I'm working on.

you need to check fresnel reflections. you effectively have a chrome material.

Also, turn off translucency. This enables Sub Surface Scattering and makes the inside of the material translucent like wax, instead of transparent like glass.

Thanx for all your help guys. I really appreciate it. I got it looking just the way I want it now:

Only other problem I have now is that I want that LCD screen to glow a little, but the video post doesn't work with V-ray? It keeps crashing when I use the video post to render.

you're better off doing the glow in a post-processing app like photoshop, combustion or after effects

Actually I think it would be "node ID" if you have selected object ID in the glow.
