  • Myst IV is getting graphic awards

    Hi guys,

I'm just droping a line about our game.
As we were using V-Ray all the way in order to achieve our graphical burden of thousands of frames on our game, I thought this was relevant.

    Yeah, we've got good reviews!
    8.5/10 with Gamespot - 10/10 for graphics !!!
    http://www.gamespot.com/pc/adventure...on/review.html
    9.0/10 with IGN - 9 /10 for graphics !!!
    http://pc.ign.com/articles/553/553920p1.html

Thanks to the chaosgroup team for their help on Myst IV Revelation.

I bought the game one week ago (nice collector edition and cheap got it for 40$), graphically it's
you got a 10/10 from me, i'm stunned ! Congratulations... The universe is absolutely awesome ! Screenshots are cool but when you see them on your 19" with a lot of things moving and so many details... it's another story... Game is hard but seeing more images motivates me

I repeat but AWESOME, and ZIP mode ROCKS

I wish the making of was a little more technical stuff related I mean seeing you people working on it under vray, wireframes etc

I've never been so impressed by 3D skills.

The first scene of the game when the girl comes and catch you, CG ??? !! I want the water material and the techniques for the rocks amazing, all i can tell. I guess u used vray in your way, with scripts and stuff like that, the interview on chasgroup site is interesting but i want more I didn't watch everything but I hope there is a scene development video.

      Congrats again !
      Amazing work.

      Regards,
      Chris

Hey, that's good to know. Especially when it comes from people working in the CG industry (I guess you are both).

And thanks a lot, as a team , we had some serious problems to solve (Here's the article you're talking about : http://www.chaosgroup.com/news/20040609-01.html. ). There won't be much more technical info about Myst I guess. Else, if somebody wants to write something about it, I'm his guest for a chat.

But concerning the intro cinematic, I was the guy working on it. Look at it some more times, and you'll see some displacement flaws and many compositing tricks (1976 frames done from scratch without re-using much things than the vehicle, live shot and cam animation). 3 weeks of rush for me...

I just can give you an hint concerning both rock and water.
Roughly, there's a huge mix of large bitmaps, procedural maps to blend them, and falloff to simulate far/near (water) or sandy/rocky (rocks)....

I'm very proud that it pleased you an I hope that you'll get double the fun you've already had. I'm forwarding your commentary to the Myst team.

        Cheers.

You can be proud of your work as your whole team can be, it's simply a piece of art. I'll check the cinematic again, I generally watch it every time I load the game before loading my save.

Working on that game must have been damn hard but it must be so great, and even more when you get feedback from other peoples.
You deserve imo every awards around concerning cg related stuff, you simply blew away the competition in games rising the bar damn high.
What impresses me is the amount of images and scenes done, unbelievale, none of those i've seen are of a less good level than another no everything is so polished all the way

Then when making such creations, you must learn a lot, and working in teams is always a unique experience, I wanna work jesus !

Your studio UbiSoft Canada is making blowing games and I hope it won't stop, you can forward a big hug (while crying and telling thanks thanks for making such great games) to the Prince of Persia team, the only game I was impressed by last year. Pop2 release is still too far but I have Myst to finish first

I could ask you questions for hours while playing the game lol, I'll play more of it and post more comments later on.

          Avec mon plus grand respect

          Regards,
          Chris
