for my character i use the smooth of the sims cloth, is much batter and faster than the mesh smooth modifier, the mesh smoot transforms the triangles into some wears forms, the simcloth smooth mantain the originalk triangles formation from the mesh, the problem is that the smooth from simcloth, cannot be ussed aftter you have the textures applied, because chanche everithing, maybe vblado, could create a little plugin or script, for the sims clioth smoot can be applied after the texturing, awnsersssss
