Would be nice if windoze allowed more connections, i wonder if there is an app that would trick windoze to allow more connections.
There are registry hacks that will do it, but I'm pretty sure it violates the windows EULA.

cpnichols: you are correct about the VRay licensing, but there is a 10 connecion limit in windows workstation versions. This could be causing some problems I believe.
Good point... I see what you mean here... BUT, each CPU would not could a connection for a dual proc computer. One computer = one connection as far as I know.

There must be someone on this forum that has used DR with more than 10 buckets.

          1 pc should = 1 connection
          not 1 bucket = 1 connection

doesnt seem like a logical way to get get around the max incoming connections in windoze

windows server 2003 allows more connections.

i dont think that there is a working "registry hack" for xp

This hack is not about "10 connections" issue.

Before modifying your registry, have you tried to render with 3 slaves or 2 slaves? Do you then still have 10 buckets available?

I found this dunno if it works...

The IIS included with Windows XP Pro is shipped out of the box with a 10 concurrent connections limit. This can be increased to 40 or so. Just download and install the IIS MetaEdit utility, load it up, and change the LM/W3SVC/MaxConnections entry's data to 40.

Ok, after a few hours of playing around with various things I have up the incoming/outgoing netwrok connections to 40, which means i can now render using all 40 connections which means 40 buckets for distributed rendering.

If anyone want to know the process involved send me an email

btw- i have just rendered an image using 22 buckets, i will do another test using 40 over the weekend

just did 26 here for kicks to test it out.. 12 duals + local, all fairly standard win2k, worked fine..

So basically, per the licence.. it CAN work with more then 10, just dont look for support if it fails on you with that many..

I recall a sig class a couple years ago on distributed rendering, and the plateau for performance increases levels out pretty sharply around 20 processors.. And i believe this was on large arrays, not via network. Basically, Milage may vary
