  • Vray and ghospainter/PSDmanager compatibility

    Hi All,

I'm looking into buying a seat of Ghostpainter but I'm not sure how well will it work with Vray. I have a couple of questions.:

    1. Ghostpainer file layers into VrayMat. map slots.

Apparently if you name your layer like difusse, bump, displacement, etc in Ghostpainter the content of those layers gets loaded in the matching map slot. Does that also happen with a VrayMat. ?

    2. PSD Manager output from Vray render.
PSDmanager outputs as layers material masks, render elements and G-buffers. Do all these 3 things work correctly when the Vray comes into play?

I read some post about Vray;s Gbuffer not being multi-layer, does that affect only the g-buffer output or also masks and render elements?

    Thanks for any feedback

I don't think vray will do render elements with psd manager since psd manager depends on the max frame buffer. But I use psd manager all the time to get all my different layer masks so I am pretty happy with it.

GhostPainter is not designed for a specific renderer. However, vray does not support all standard 3ds max features that psd-manager can make use of.

      1) GhostPainter: Assigning PSD file layers to vray maps slots
      http://www.cebas.com/products/featur...&PID=5&FID=386

This works with all materials and map types. You simply have to use the names of the map slots like they appear in the material/map browser for your PSD layers.

      2) psd-manager output
Vray supports no 3ds max render elements. Vray 1.5 will have its own proprietary implementation that psd-manager has no access to. So psd-manager can't output them. The PSD channels (selections) and layers that psd-manager can create for materials an objects all work with vray and so does the G-Buffer channel output. Because vray currently supports no multi-layered G-buffer the edges of layers/channels can look jagged. A correct G-Buffer was previously promised for vray 1.5 but the last what I heard from Vlado is that vray could produce a multi-layered Gbuffer (theoretically) and may do so in a future release but currently does not. I still hope that it gets in. So if you think that it is important to you let them know.

Good news for all psd-manger users .
VRay 1.5 will get a correct muti-layer G-buffer according to the VRay 1.46.04 build announcement.
